Tickets
We typically perform at least two free concerts each year, one each in May and December, in Baldwin Auditorium on Duke’s East Campus. Baldwin Auditorium has main-level and balcony-level seating. The balcony gives a full view of the orchestra and is often quite popular. Our concerts in Baldwin are general admission, so be sure to arrive early if you prefer balcony seating.
We also perform with other groups in and around Durham. In some cases, our events are ticketed. See the concert listings for details.
GETTING TO BALDWIN
Baldwin Auditorium is located at the north end of Duke’s East Campus, at the intersection of Onslow Street and W. Markham Avenue, 1336 Campus Drive, Durham NC 27708. There is a circle just off Markham Avenue available for drop off. Parking is available on surface streets in the neighborhood around Baldwin, or in on-campus and nearby lots as shown in the map below:
- Parking Areas #1 & #2. Enter these lots via the campus entrance at the intersection of W. Markham Ave. and Sedgefield St. Starting in fall 2024, there will be construction on East Campus that may impact the availability of these parking lots, so we recommend having a back-up plan.
- Parking #3 (Asbury United Methodist Church) is on the corner of W. Markham Avenue and Sedgefield St. This is a public lot, please follow any posted parking signs.
- Parking #4 provides accessible and additional general parking for Baldwin. These lots are accessible via East Campus Union Dr, which is the campus entrance located at the intersection of N. Buchanan Boulevard and Dacian Ave.
You can find more information, including driving directions, on the Baldwin Auditorium information page.
Accessibility
In addition to the accessible parking information above, please find accessibility information for Baldwin Auditorium here. If you have questions that are not answered, please email us at communications@dmomusic.org and we will be happy to help.
OPEN TO ALL
The DMO works hard to present concerts that are enjoyable for a wide audience. We often have selections designed to appeal to kids in the audience, which will be clear on our website, and these family-friendly programs are a great way to introduce younger children to orchestral music. We also offer short educational portions of the program—applicable to music lovers of any age—to help our audience connect with the music they are hearing.
Etiquette
Classical music should be fun for everyone! Here are a few guidelines to make the experience comfortable:
- Arrive at least a few minutes early. This will give you time to find a seat and read some of the program notes to learn about the music you’ll hear. If the program has already started when you arrive, our volunteer ushers will ask you to wait outside the doors until a break between pieces, at which time they’ll help you find a seat.
- Turn off (or at least silence) your cell phone. Baldwin Auditorium has amazing acoustics – which means that every little noise carries, so even those tiny vibrations can be distracting at the wrong moment.
- If you or someone in your party needs a break, feel free to head out of the auditorium at any time. The timpani can get pretty loud (we’re looking at you, too, trombones!), and there are several exits around the auditorium. The balcony can be a good option if you think you might need a quick escape, also.
- Traditionally, the audience applauds at the end of a piece, instead of between movements. If you’re unsure, you can always wait for our conductor to lower her hands and turn around to face the audience. (We appreciate your applause and support anytime, though!)
